In the sunshine smoking cigarettes to pass the time/Who wakes up to a bottle of wine on the nightstand

That would be lyrics to "So Rich, So Pretty" by Mickey Avalon, who has such a relaxed urbane vibe to his music. It's what you listen to when you're sitting in your room with the window open, putting on some lipstick and struttin' in a pair of old heels.

It is so time for the end of the year. I am beyond ready for it. One of my friends said she doesn't even care; she wants to bring cocktails to class. Haha, I hear that!

Question: Why, why, why don't women dress like this anymore?
We need a Great Gatsby night. Everyone should dress in silks and top hats and we should all just listen to ah-mazing music, dance in a water fountain, and have lots of martinis.
Oh my God, I think I found the new holiday I'm going to celebrate.

Alisa don't mind when I call her Leslie she's gotta dress with class
And Jean Paul Gaultier and a Hermes bag and four inch tips made of ostrich
Sharp enough to slit your wrists her lips spread gossip
Won't say sorry when she offends
She comes over to my place in her old man's Benz
In gold and silver and jewels of all colors
And she doesn't take them off when we're tearing up the covers

Oh man, I need summer really, really soon.

Love to you all,
Heather

They Finally Did It

I am very happy to report that my school has allowed me a fashion column in our newspaper The Echo. This is something that I have been pushing for since January and finally, I will be able to write something I really care about. This is opposed to the current articles I've written which while they aren't bad, I just have no zeal for.
Wow.
Yay! Yay! Yay!
Ahem, so anyway, my goals for this column are...
1) Classic and structured
Like the timeless little black dress, this column will focus on fashions that in my beliefs are forever and if not forever, then at least easy to wear a couple decades later. The phrase "Ugg boots" will not enter unless it is in a bashing sense.

2) Bright and Optimistic
You know those really sunny warm days where all you want to do is walk around outside going nowhere just to soak up the sun? I want my column to reflect that yes times are difficult but one should still see the glass as half full rather than empty. I won't advise people to purchase nothing but $700 Christian Louboutins and I won't discourage the choice either. I will push readers to go shopping because right now, it really is the best way to contribute to our country.

3) Abstract and Arty
Fashion does not have to be fully comprehended. It's the odd, unique pieces that gets people talking and sparks intrigue. Inspire!

4) Kinks Aren't a Bad Thing
It's actually quite sexy and modern. If I can slip it in under the radar, you know I will. Hell, I'll get it in there radar or no.

5) Celebrate!
It's fun! It's new! It's well written! Have a cocktail or two. Have a couple while writing just to see the results. Seriously, writing while drunk is a great time.

6) Crazy is As Crazy Do
Have you ever seen some of the clothes I love? Or that others love? It's a mad, mad, mad world out there and I fucking love it to bits.

7) Keepin' It Real (Like a Cardboard Box)
Overall, I want this column to project a youthful air that signifies that while the times we live in are a'changin', they are our time. There won't be another quite like it and we make our lives what they are.

That's all for now. Time to work on an actual assigned story.

Love to you all,
Heather

Happy Hour Every Hour

Abinsthe-legal, delicious, and on a stick!
High five to the candy store site that turns liquor into a lickable form. At www.lollyphile.com you too can invest in absinthe flavored suckers at reasonable costs (4 for $10 to start with). This ain't your Dum-Dum 100 count sack of blah candies, this is a little something special to start the day off at 9am with no judgment with.

But what's that you say? You don't like absinthe and think it tastes a whole lot like black licorice? No problem, Lollyphile has bourbon flavored sticks too. Get a box and pass them out on your birthday as a treat. You're gonna be popular, baby.

For those who like to fly the narrow and straight-edge, a lolly that tastes like bacon. Let me repeat that, a sucker that tastes like the tasty breakfast meat. Bacon!
"Mmm...bacon." Definitely a Homer Simpson moment.

And if you are against animal sucker cruelty, the wasabi-ginger pop is made for you.

Props to not sticking a green fairy somewhere on the absinthe box.
In other news, the "K" key on my keypad is sticking.

I'm At My Week's End

What a terribly pun-induced title, this is my brain on bite size Crunch bars, Mountain Dew, and hardly any sleep for you.
Yes, that David Bowie CD is still missing at home and I get constantly hounded over its wherabouts when I call home.

Reminds me of Donnie Darko but this time Frank is Easter-ed out.

David Standish is the shit.

I love this photo! This woman reminds me of a mixture of Holly Golightly and Edie Sedgwick.

Hard to believe this is Emma Watson aka Hermione from the Harry Potter films. She looks absolutely fantastic.

I want a pair of ballet slippers. The real deal too, not some lookalike at the store. These are dyed Capezio slippers.

Yum, the Yves Saint Laurent bow-back Oxford dress. Utterly delicious!

Oh my, she reminds me of a cast-off bohemian version of Blair Waldorf. But there is something wonderfully warm about this look. It's the headband, I think.

Christian Lacroix, Spring 2009.
Fashion Week.
Fuck yeah, this might just turn into one of favorite new holidays.

I love Poppie very much! But as a finger puppet this is just painful and unpleasant looking. What was Sears in the '70's thinking?
Oscars this Sunday.
Homework tonight.
Exhausted completely.
This looks like a silly haiku.
Love to you all,
Heather

Just Let Me Be When I'm Crazy

Twilight last night was pretty phenomenal. The line of girls wrapped around Mann Theaters from front to back. It was wonderful to see the book come alive on the screen (Peter Facinelli, middle, was absolutely swoon worthy) and the characters all looked the part. The acting on the other hand was terrible and there were far too many cutaway shots but honestly I wasn't at this movie to analyze the cinematography, dialogue delivery, and costume detail like I usually do at movies. I was there to gather stars in my eyes and fantasies in my mind of the attractive guys.
This movie also made me painfully aware of one other thing. This is the last movie I will probably act this way during. Never again will I be able to scream at a projection screen because I'm getting older now, not younger. I'm chalking this up to being a college student. It was a thrill that I wish desperately I had during my younger years because it is a rarity that something I naturally enjoy millions also like.

I drank a cosmo before seeing Twilight to energize myself. I had no intention on going into the movie sloshed but I got that nice little tight feeling in my stomach. I think I was a born drinker and man was I born into the right family for it. All of my relatives are really anti-alcohol and my intermediate family certainly frowned upon (if they knew) my underage drinking but it the type of thing that they chose to look past most of the time.

This is a sign outside of a candy store. I've been thinking about candies alot lately probably because I didn't really eat any on Halloween and my inner time clock is chiming, asking where it's heap of Twizzlers and Crunch bars are. I like the illustrated girl, she reminds me of Mrs. Mia Wallace from Pulp Fiction only kind of Egyptian.

Today is Rene Magritte's 110th birthday and Google is always on top of important events, as usual.

This is a candy store in Saint Louis, nearish to my house. I've only been there a couple of times but it's always nice to have a candy store in your neighborhood. It brings back a great feeling of old fashioned sensibilities.

I was super excited when I moved to California to see a See's Candy shop! I went there during Halloween (very broke but loving it all the same) and nearly left with a ghost shaped lollipop. I need to make another visit soon, Christmas is coming...
