Anthem

This is an anthem for the girl that got away
This is an anthem for the world of yesterday
This is an anthem for the rebel of my youth
This is an anthem for risk of loving you

-Filo & Peri Anthem

I love this song, it makes me so nostalgic for so many memories. I think anyone could listen to it and feel that way.

Happy Halloween!

Love to you all,
Heather

And I Hope You're Satisfied/To See The Wind Blow Over Me

I am used to living an unconventional lifestyle and having weeks filled with events stumbling and tumbling over one another to reach the end result of Sunday evening. I could never have seen this one coming though.

Lights, camera, action. My week was filled with losing people, gaining new ones, growing closer to those I love the most and growing the furthest from others I never imagined I would, beautiful news, ugly news, a touch of booze, aging, and attention I did not expect to receive.

Tomorrow I need to face the demons at the business office. Hopefully I don't return like this (the news is not pretty, folks)...

...I'm aiming for something along the lines of this.

You know what I've discovered? No matter just how awful things can be in my life, no matter just how many times I can stumble and fall, I always find that putting on a fresh coat of lipstick and dressing up will fix it. This can be seen as a temporary illusion but if your outward appearance radiates confidence and you firmly believe and hold true to yourself, I think that there isn't anything you can't do.

Love to you all,
Heather

WWJD- What Would Joan Do?

It's settled. Scrap the Bachelor's in Comm I plan on receiving in May, I have a new route in life I would rather follow.

I want to be Joan Holloway when I grow up.

She's the foxiest siren at Sterling Cooper (well, when she still worked there, that is) and Christina Hendricks plays her to a T. She even took notes on just how to perfect an office environment:

"...like the way you prepare your desk. Making sure there are little candies out because that’s enticing. Making sure that your slip shows just a tiny, tiny bit when you’re sitting down because that’s alluring.

Great tips.

Ahh Christina, welcome to my style icons list. You're gonna love it here.

Love to you all,

22

I made the cover of the Ventura County Star today, in my fabulous '80s wear from last night at my university's 50th bash. This was the picture and let me tell you, that one is certainly making its rounds on campus. I wish I could have kept that dress, it was so beautiful! I do love this photo and love even moreso that today, my sweets, is....

my 22nd birthday!!! Still recovering a little bit from having kicked off the birthday at midnight last night, haha.

The Kinski Crush

Occasionally I take quizzes on Facebook that ask me if I could meet someone who has deceased and have a conversation, who would that person be?

That person has long been Klaus Kinski, the German actor famous for his role in Nosferatu (that's a real vampire sans the sparkles). When I was in high school, I used to watch an absolute load of crappy B-list horror films on Showtime Beyond, part of the Showtime package that specialized in supernatural flicks and split the pair in two, "Daydreams" during the day that were most fanciful and fairytale esque and "Nightdreams" during the evening/late nights that were either really scary or really laughable in attempting to be scary.

Most Friday nights I spent with the "Nightdreams" and one night, caught this film called Crawlspace which was about this landlord of an apartment that had a Nazi past and killed the female tenants who lived there. Who better to play the role than Kinski, the man infamous for sparring with director Werner Herzog?

And somehow, within my DNA and genetics, I found the 60 year old man with his deeply white hair and stunning smile to be maddeningly attractive. Let's see...this was during the time that Orlando Bloom was depicted as the teenage girl's dream guy and as usual, I found beauty in the obviously less conventional form.

It was brought to my attention during an Amazon search that Kinski wrote an autobiography about himself and this inspired me to start a laborious search for the out-of-print book. You could buy a used copy for the sum of $72. No joke. That damn thing was expensive.

On the day of my 17th birthday, I struck gold at the public library when I found a copy, hardly worn (!) on the shelf. It was the best birthday gift I've really had in all honesty despite the fact that you know, I don't own it.

That book was insanely dirty. I thought that since I had some Bret Easton Ellis readings under my belt that I would be perfectly fine but it was intense. If you believed everything in the book, you would come away believing that Kinski was nothing but a sex maniac and hardly an actor who starred in over a 100 films.

Apparently the book was fabricated so it wasn't an actual autobiography but the most devastating part occurred for me when I finished reading and decided to IMDB him. Kinski died in 1991 when he was 65 years old. I was only 4 when he died.

I was very quiet after reading that for a couple of days and toted that book from class to class with me all throughout my junior year of high school. It was a staple in my bag until the day came two weeks later when I had to turn it back in to the library. Which I promptly renewed.

What a handsome man. I'll leave you with this humorous ancedote:

Jack Lemmon told me that he was in line at Ace Hardware in Beverly Hills, and the sales clerk kept looking past him. "I may not be the biggest star in the world" he said, "but, jeez, usually when I stand in line, the clerk will notice me. I turned around, and there was Klaus Kinski with an ax."

Haha. He would.

Heather

Lazy Sunday

I haven't done a single thing other than write earlier today. It's the morning after my school's Homecoming at Citywalk- it was tons of fun. Except for the fact that you know, a bunch of people got wasted and the dance was called off half an hour early. I still loved it though and I'm rather pleased to say that this time around, I drank a fair amount that kept me just buzzed enough to have fun but not to the point where I was slurring all of my words or falling down. Golf clap, if you will.

The short playlist of songs I currently enjoy:

Placebo "Running Up That Hill"

(I heard this last night for the first time and I swear, I thought my head was going to fall off from the pure sweet thrill of this song. It is gorgeous.)

Wale feat. Lady Gaga "Chillin"
(Damn dude, Gaga sounds like M.I.A. in this song! That's who I thought it was originally. She's wonderful but Wale, bleh, skip his parts in the song.)

September "Can't Get Over"
(Simple dance music with a fun melody.)

New Order "Vicious Streak"
(I can pick a New Order song out of any lineup ever. They have a very distinct sound.)

Flight of the Conchords "Sugalumps"
(Bret and Jemaine bring sexy back with all the ladies in a trance checking out their track pants.)

SNL may not be one of my favorites these days but I did like this skit.

From Russia With Love

Vlada Roslyakova caught my eye with her pretty red hair today. I kind of forgot that she's been in a couple of my favorite spreads from some really old entries on here.

There is something about her face that captures my attention immediately. No wonder she was Christian Lacroix's muse.

It's about 2am and I've still got loads of homework to complete...story of every night of my life. How do I ever let myself get so buried like this and somehow manage to dig my way out? Wish I hadn't of missed "Glee" tonight, completed a Photoshop project in the library instead, an advertisement for a brand of bread I invented (oh yes indeed). Mad Men has made me more and more aware of the advertising world and should I pursue it as a profession (likely), I can always look back and remember that Don Draper got the ball rolling for me.

Glass Half Full

"We are cups, constantly and quietly being filled. The trick is, knowing how to tip ourselves over and let the beautiful stuff out."
-Ray Bradbury

Inspiration found me today in a rather unlikely way. Isn't that always the case?

We Were So In Phase/ In Our Dance Hall Days

I had the fitting for my school's upcoming 50th Anniversary fashion show and am super excited because:

a) the first dress fit and it was a stunner. Dark blue, sequined, shoulder pads and a fitted bodice all leading up to the most slamming, big satin pleated bottom ever.

b) and judging by the aforementioned description, I'm representing the '80's decade.

YES!!! I've liked many decades in the past but because of my fondness for Depeche Mode, Simple Minds and pretty much anything involving a synthesizer, I've been compared to the '80's often. This dress is a killer, can't wait to get my hair all feathered up and represent it!

I Googled some kick-ass '80's dresses below.

Great neckline and color.

Puffed sleeves + ruffled bottom + fuchsia = quintessentially '80's.

Va-va-va-vroom baby!

And now it's off to do some homework. Eww...

Heather

2.0.1.0.

I love fall but right now, I've been flitting between other seasons thanks to the spring runway styles for 2010. This is only a small sampling of all of the clothes I loved, if I listed them all, it would be rather long.

3.1 Philip Lim. This coat, the thin little nude dress, the barrette in the hair, very youthful and innocent and reminded me of Twiggy hardcore.

Let's all pause and reflect on the genius that is Alexander McQueen. These shoes are space-age glam to the max and pure art. David Bowie during the Ziggy Stardust years and Jane Jetson would both be proud owners. 10 inch heels, the WOW factor is here totally!

I am always a fan of the super-girly prettiness that Betsey Johnson brings to the table. This outfit embodies a youthful presence and looks like a lot of fun to wear and pose in.

Charles Anastase is a recent favorite of mine and I like the pleats on the skirt as well as the creamy jacket.

This Dior line was simply beautiful. I loved the light lingerie, it was very retro and very now all at once. It's rare for me to find a line of clothes in which I like every piece but that is exactly what happened here. This one is my favorite.

Lanvin stayed their usual course this time around but I love the sweeping ruffle on this dress.

Undoubtedly the most intriguing of the season, Viktor & Rolf did wild and wonderful things with their dresses this upcoming season. I had to post two pictures to show the more outlandish...

...and the slightly more convertable to normal wear. An amazing, fantastic collection all in all though.

Love to you all,
Heather

Left My Name with the Boarding Guards/ A Name That I Don't Need

Mulligan flew to Los Angeles to do the rounds of agents and casting directors, taking the bus all around the city because she doesn't drive. "I didn't mind it. Just sitting on the bus, you can watch the most amazing people. Really, from all sides of the spectrum -- from really kind of smart people to some people wearing no clothes and carrying bird cages."

-Carey Mulligan Gets 'An Education' LA Times 10/8/09

I already liked Carey but after hearing that she doesn't drive and takes buses everywhere? Adoration. She's such a smart, grounded girl. I know that she will be a big success. I hope I can see An Education soon though I have no idea when I would have the time to plan it.

Miss Bradshaw in Paris. I love this episode, I keep it on my iPod to have handy.

Today I was asked to be a model for my school's upcoming 50th Anniversary. We get to wear clothing from the various eras of the school's history and I think there is a fashion show included. The woman in charge of the event, Lolita, is very sweet and kind. I had her for a costume course last year and learned how to sew on a sewing machine. It's very exciting, I wonder what era they will put me in...

This week started out very trying indeed but has since stitched itself right up. All of my important documents I recently lost are being mailed directly to me as I type this, I've been homeworking like a nut, the cell phone and I are reunited again, and with the help of a wonderful friend, recently figured out how to solve a transportation crisis within my near future.

I stay optimistic because when the chips are down, the only way you can go is up.
And keep going up.

On a weird side note, Journey has also been doing wonders. Yes, you heard that right. That band is getting me through life's issues. Also copious amounts of my old stand-by Arcade Fire. They're perfect for fall.

Heather

I Fell into Fall

My sweets,
Today I caught that snap in the air, the cool refreshing breeze I haven't felt in ages. Right on time and ready to go, I put on my favorite red trench and stepped out into autumn.
Finally here at long last. I'm in my element. October brings beautiful leaves and pumpkins, chilly air, sweaters and stockings, Halloween, lots of orange, black and red, candy corn and other assorted treats and my birthday gets sandwiched in there somewhere.
It's a beautiful time and a beautiful life. I hope everyone gets such lovely weather too.

Love to you all,
Heather
