Spotlight Shining On: Sophie Ellis Bextor

It's a beautiful day out, not just temperature wise but also for many, many other things happening in my life. Beautiful days call for great fun music and even though I have many girls I love to listen to when I'm happy (Kylie Minogue, Kate Ryan and Alizee to name a few), Sophie Ellis Bextor is one of my tops.
The first time I heard her...I was in 8th grade and had just gotten a Ministry of Sound album with tons of electro/dance songs remixed on it. I listened to that to the skipping point on my CD player and Miss Bextor's hit "Murder on the Dancefloor" was on it. Since it was remixed, it was at a faster pace than the radio edit so it came as a shock to me several years later when I listened to the slower version!
Sophie to me is part of my Summer 2007 mix when I revisited her music again and bought Trip the Light Fantastic and Shoot From the Hip for my iPod for the summer gym classes I was enrolled in. Her upbeat dance beats coupled with her elegant British accent put a bounce into my step especially when scaling up this huge winding upward road in a quarry. If I listened to a slow song, I surely wouldn't have made it.
My favorite tracks...Take Me Home, Mixed up World, I Won't Change You, Sparkle (which actually sounds better live), Catch You, New York City Lights.
She also has phenomenal style. Sophie along with Dita von Teese, Zooey Deschanel, and Eva Green, is paving new ground for girls with pale skin, super dark hair, and bright eyes.
I look forward to the day she records and releases a new album!
Love to you all,
Heather
